DimXpert - the Manufacturing Time Saver

So you've developed a new part, that may be simple or complex, but you need to dimension it in terms that match your companies manufacturing abilities. You may have dimensioned features within your part from different planes or edges that made sense to you "the designer", but now need to comply with company manufacturing standards. To satisfy either of these common requests you really have two choices; re-dimension the part all over again for manufacturing OR use SolidWorks DimXpert!

The purpose of DimXpert is to apply dimensions and tolerances to a part from the manufacturing perspective. Using DimXpert, SolidWorks will automatically re-dimension your part based on your manufacturing tolerances and specs, and from datum planes you define. Parts can be either turned or prismatic, tolerances can be plus or minus (+/-) or use a GD&T format, and dimensions will be created according to ANSI or ISO drafting standards. All dimensions will be "driven" and therefore un-editable but will reflect the standards you create in Options, Document Properties, DimXpert.

The next time you have to translate your design into a drawing that reflects manufacturing dimensioning and tolerancing techniques, remember DimXpert!

We Made the Inc. 5000 List for the 4th Straight Year!

It's a good news day here at FISHER/UNITECH, we made the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing private companies in America, for the 4th straight year!

A company called ideeli took top honors this year, ranking at #1 on the list with three-year growth of 40,882.2%.  I've never heard of this company, but hey, they must be doing something right.  We rank at #4975 but I have a few words of advice for the higher-ups at ideeli, there's always next year and FISHER/UNITECH is coming to get you!

In all seriousness, we are very proud around here.  As most of you know, it's been a tough go in the manufacturing sector in the Midwest the past few years.  We want our customers and prospects to know that, as we all climb out of this recession, FISHER/UNITECH has been making substantial investments in the resources and infrastructure needed to grow our business, most recently with the acquisition of CADVenture in December 2010.

With over 6,000 customers, 15,000 users, 12 offices in eight states and a staff creeping up to nearly 100 employees, we are uniquely positioned to meet the technology needs of the discrete manufacturer as they add headcount and begin to invest again.

Want to know more about the list?  Complete results of the Inc. 500|5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/5000.

About Additive Manufacturing Technologies
Additive manufacturing technologies are also commonly known as "Rapid Prototyping" or "3D Printing" as well as other names. And, although they are widely used by design engineers for concept modeling and prototyping, that's not all. Manufacturing engineers are now employing these technologies for various applications such as jigs, fixtures, check gauges, and even as a bridge-to-tooling and low-volume end-use parts.

BREAKING THE BOND: The New ABS-ESD7 Static Dissipative Plastic

Stratasys has announced the new ABS-ESD7 static dissipative material.  If static charge can damage your products, impair their performance or even cause an explosion, try ABS-ESD7.

Ideal for protecting electronics from damage caused by electrostatic discharge (static shock), preventing fire and explosion (static spark) and preserving equipment (static cling), parts built with ABS-ESD7 will have a target surface resistance of 10^7 ohms and typically a range between 10^9 ohms to 10^6 ohms.

Break the bond between manufacturing tools and your products.

Fortus 400mc and 900mc 3D Production Systems can now use ABS-ESD7 to quickly and inexpensively produce static dissipative jigs, fixtures and functional prototypes.
